School: LIA Christian Secondary School
Class: S1
Gender: Female
Age: 14 Years Old
Ambitions: nurse

Child's situation: Berna lives with her mother in Bukakata –Kidandali (a fishing village). Her father passed away a couple of years ago leaving Berna and her siblings in the care of the mother whose health inot very good. Berna and Betty are twin sisters though not identical. They both attend Kasaka secondary together with their young brother Paul. The three attend the same class which makes it easier to share notes and help each other. They travel (walk) a very long distance to and from school (approximately 8 miles) But amazingly they’ve got the morale to learn. The 3 siblings missed school last year since there weren’t any secondary schools around their area and yet boarding school was extremely expensive for their mother. So they are very privileged to be in school this year. Their mum has not job but during rainy season she plants some crops on her small piece of land in hope of getting enough yield for both home consumption and sell. This season she’s planted sweet potatoes, cassava and eggplants. The mother is so mindful about her children’s education despite her low income and poor health.
