He is sixteen now and he's thankful to God for enabling his parents to clear his school fees as well as his siblings’. Nyesigamukama’s parents burn and sell charcoal for a living but they don’t earn much from it. His biggest challenge is travelling to and fro school; the journey is long and tiresome yet in wet/rainy seasons like the one we are currently experiencing; that is from August to November, he reaches school with his uniform soaked and his feet covered in mud since him and his siblings have no shoes. On top of that, they are always late for school yet they start travelling very early in the morning at 4:00 am. The drainage system on this landing site is also very poor so good hygiene is not a priority in this area which leaves them exposed to diseases like diarrhoea, dysentery, yellow fever and malaria among others. Nyesigamukama is happy that his parents were able to transfer him and his siblings to Christ's Embassy Primary School Kasaka which has better education. In his old school, they studied and wrote exams in Luganda (the local language); Speaking English was the least of their concerns so they face a big challenge when sitting for national exams since they are set in English. This also explains his poor performance in exams because reading English makes it difficult for him to perform to his expectations. He hopes to study better this term because he consults his teachers and fellow students a lot and on top of that, he tries to practice his English whenever he gets a chance.
